Short answer: rebonding makes your hair fully straight and sleek. Volume rebonding also straightens it, but keeps soft body at the roots and a gentle curve at the ends, so the result looks natural rather than flat. Volume rebonding is the Korean favourite for that smooth, effortless look. At J. Seoul, rebonding starts at $358 and volume rebonding at $388 (before 9% GST).

Humidity is hard on hair. Frizz, puffiness and waves that change from day to day are common complaints, especially if your hair is thick or naturally wavy. Straightening services make hair smoother and easier to manage, and cut down on daily blow-drying and flat-ironing.

What is rebonding?

Rebonding changes the structure of the hair so it stays straight. A treatment is applied, the hair is straightened with heat, and the shape is then fixed.

The result: straight, sleek, glossy hair from root to tip.

It suits you if you:

  • Want a smooth, poker-straight finish
  • Have very frizzy or wavy hair that is hard to control
  • Like a clean, polished look

What is volume rebonding?

Volume rebonding uses the same idea, with a softer finish. Your stylist shapes the hair so it keeps lift at the roots and a slight inward curve at the ends, instead of lying flat against the head.

The result: smooth hair that still has movement and body, the look you often see in Korean dramas and K-beauty.

It suits you if you:

  • Want smooth hair that does not look flat or stiff
  • Have fine hair that tends to sit close to the scalp
  • Want a natural, low-effort finish that still looks styled

Root rebonding for regrowth

The hair that has been rebonded stays straight. New hair grows in with your natural texture, so after a while you will see a difference at the roots.

Root Rebonding ($318) treats only the new growth, so the lengths are not processed again. This is gentler on your hair and keeps the result even from root to tip.

How to choose

  1. The look. Sleek and straight, or smooth with body?
  2. Hair thickness. Very thick hair often suits classic rebonding. Fine hair often looks better with volume rebonding.
  3. Hair condition. If your hair is coloured, bleached or dry, your stylist may suggest a treatment first.
  4. Other plans. Thinking about colour or a perm soon? Mention it, so your stylist can plan the order.

Every service at J. Seoul starts with a consultation, so you will get an honest recommendation before anything is applied.

Rebonding or a perm?

If you want movement and waves rather than straight hair, a perm may suit you better. See our guide to setting perm vs natural perm.

Aftercare

  • Follow your stylist’s advice on when to wash and when you can tie or clip your hair. This matters most in the first few days.
  • Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner.
  • Dry downwards with a brush for the smoothest finish.
  • Add a treatment. Straightening is demanding on hair. A salon treatment such as Keratin Recovery or Rebuild Clinic helps keep it strong and glossy.
  • Plan your regrowth. Ask your stylist when Root Rebonding makes sense for your hair.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between rebonding and volume rebonding?

Rebonding makes hair fully straight and sleek. Volume rebonding also straightens the hair but keeps soft body at the roots and a gentle curve at the ends, so it looks more natural and less flat.

How long does rebonding last?

The treated hair stays straight, but new hair grows in with your natural texture. How soon you notice the regrowth depends on your hair type and how fast it grows. Root Rebonding treats just the new growth.

Can I colour my hair after rebonding?

Often yes, but your stylist should check your hair first, as both services work on the hair structure. Tell your stylist about any colour plans during the consultation.

How much is volume rebonding at J. Seoul?

Volume Rebonding is $388 for short hair, $428 for medium and $468 for long. Rebonding is $358, $398 and $438. Root Rebonding is $318. Prices are before 9% GST, and extra-long hair adds $50.

Is rebonding good for frizzy hair in Singapore's humidity?

Many guests choose rebonding or volume rebonding to manage frizz in humid weather. Your stylist will suggest the option that suits your hair type and condition.
